Week 2 :Film language and Research approaches

Topic：

How ecology is used in VFX

Keyword：Simulation of growth patterns, Virtual ecology, ecology, VFX, Plants.

Introduction:This topic will look at how visual effects can be created to make 3d models visually alive by simulating the laws of growth. The representation of ecological forms requires a reasonable amount of research and development, and how virtual ecology can be created in special effects through the knowledge of ecology, perhaps based on the analysis of scientific data and the adjustment of model movement parameters to achieve this effect. I would like to start by analysing some of the plant effects shots in films or commercials.

Week 1 :Unit Introduction

Week 2: Lego Figure

We created his head, arms, upper body and legs separately, it was important to adjust the wiring and get the lines right. After we finished modelling we started adding materials, as it was a simple lego I chose to colour it with AI standard surface, expanded the UV of the head and added an expression material for the logo figurine.

Week 1:Tesla Truck

First week professor Nick Savy introduced us to Maya. We work through modeling, texturing, and some compositing work to complete the scene.

During this process, I find something interesting in the HDR sunlight in the skydome light, I started to think about how to make the model more natural and balanced in the scene, I found that if only HDR is not enough, I added an area light to increase the light.

This is a rendered picture, there are a lot of flaws, and I still have to try more.

Week 1:Cinematography Foundation:Time

I would like to find the meaning of time from daily life, I took eight pictures to express Time from four different perspectives.

The first is ‘on my way’ 1-3

Taking the underground or bus often makes me think about time. Time is a speeding train that never stops. Takes people to different places, and people meet and separate at some point.

The second is cycle of life 4

The flowers blooming to different degrees. Time is the cycle of life again and again. Our life are woven together with time and every moment is born and lost.

The third is ‘stop the time’ 5-6

This is the work of the artist Damien Hirst, he uses formalin to make art. I think this artwork not only expresses the theme but also freezes them at a specific time.

The fourth is vintage clothes 7-8

I like to buy some vintage things, such as the 90s 80s 70s clothes or accessories, identified by the style and the special craftsmanship of certain years, these elements also express the time.
